Graduation Photos

As some of you might already know the sign up sheet for grad photos is up on the board in the lounge. So for those of you who are planning on graduating this April or the coming December it is in your interest to come get your photo taken so it can be framed and hung up in the building as well as so you can order photos for mommy and daddy and what not. The cost is $15 a sitting payable when you guys sit down with the photographer.

BIOSCAN 2008

On March 7th-9th Bioscan will be presented. Bioscan is an informative, hands-on event for all ages that explores biology and it's related fields of study.

Times and Presentations:

March 7th - From 9:30-4:00pm

March 8th - From 10:00-7:00pm

12-12:30 - Parasites for Lunch by Dr. Neli Chiton

2-2:30 - Home Wine Making - Anything Goes! by Dr. Cedric Gilot

4-4:30 - Sable Island Horses: The Importance of Long-Term Individual-Based Research in Ecology by Dr. Phillip McLoughlin

March 9th - From 10:00-4:00pm

12-12:30 - Measuring the Speed of Light Using Marshmallows by Dr. Andrew Robinson

BIOSCAN Volunteers

Hey LTS volunteers! We have a great opportunity this year to participate to BIOSCAN.

BIOSCAN is an informative, hands-on public event for all ages that explores all aspects of biology and the natural sciences.

Let's Talk Science will be part of the BIOSCAN this year and we are hoping to have a large team of volunteers and offer various hands on activities. Some of the topics that we have in mind for the hands-on activities are:

PALEONTOLOGY
OPTICS
CHEMISTRY OF WATER
DNA-GENETICS
ADAPTATION
PLANTS

If you are interested in any of these topics or you would like to participate to BIOSCAN with any other activity please contact Sand the Site Coordinator by phone (966-5737) or by email (letstalkscience@usask.ca). You can also sign up on the lists in the Ore Gangue Lounge posted on the entrance walls.

BIOSCAN will take place from 7 - 9th of March and it will be a great opportunity for you to complete an activity at the university, in a time that will not conflict with your class schedule (Friday afternoon, Saturday, Sunday).

Graduation Rings

For those who are graduating. We will be ordering the 'Earth Rings' grad rings again this year. They will be a bit different from years gone by. We have changed the design a bit, plus we are going back to the wider ring style. Here's how the pricing breaks down:

Sterling silver - $95
10k White gold - $204
14k White gold - $269
Platinum - $890

Any extra engraving can be done on them, and that will cost an extra $10 for any amount of characters.

So what we need is your name, the material that you want, and your finger size. I will be sending in the order soon, so the cut off date to get your info to me will be Friday, March 14th.

Token Night

There will be an event this Friday the 7th at the Sutherland Bar starting at 8:00 pm. So what happens is you buy a wristband, then you buy drinks at regular prices, and the bar will give you a tolken. At the end of the night, you should have collected a bunch of tokens, then you find one of us and we'll buy those tokens off you for $$. Hope to see you all out there!

Clothing Order

There will be another clothing order this Term. The dead line is March 10th with no extensions. There will be no online orders this time, but extra order forms will be in the lounge office. Make sure that you give this sheet along with your cheque or money to an ore gangue exececutive, and please no orders on sticky notes, those get tricky.

The seminar this week will be about Active Tectonics on Venus: Evidence from Craters, Coronae and Chasmata by Donna Jurdy, a Distinguished Speaker who is also from the International Association of Women Geoscientists. It will take place on Friday, February 29th in Geol. 155 at 4 pm.

There are a few new things going on and they need volunteers to step in .

1. Geology Workshop at the University (grade 4 students)
  Monday - February 4th (9.30-11.30) and (12-1.30 pm)
  Friday - February 8th (9.30-11.30) and (12-1.30 pm)

All the activities for this workshop are already designed and ready to go. They only need a few extra hands to help us. No backgroung in geology is required.

It's a great opportunity for you to complete your 3 activities and you don't have to leave the university area.

2. Science Fair Judges needed at St. Angela School
    Thurdsay - March 6th (9-11.45 am) and (12.50 - 3pm)

There will be a geology workshop this Friday (Feb 1st) at 9.30 am. This will be for University of Saskatchewan Let's Talk Science Partnership Program. This will consist of 2 activity sessions (9.30-11.30) and (12-1.30pm). All the activities are already designed and ready to go. We just need some extra hands. For those who will probably not go to Geochem, this will probably be the best way to redeem yourself or your conscious in doing this.
