    BIOSCAN Volunteers

Hey LTS volunteers! We have a great opportunity this year to participate to BIOSCAN.

BIOSCAN is an informative, hands-on public event for all ages that explores all aspects of biology and the natural sciences.

Let's Talk Science will be part of the BIOSCAN this year and we are hoping to have a large team of volunteers and offer various hands on activities.  Some of the topics that we have in mind for the hands-on activities are:
    PALEONTOLOGY
    OPTICS
    CHEMISTRY OF WATER
    DNA-GENETICS
    ADAPTATION
    PLANTS

If you are interested in any of these topics or you would like to participate to BIOSCAN with any other activity please contact Sand the Site Coordinator by phone (966-5737) or by email (letstalkscience@usask.ca).  You can also sign up on the lists in the Ore Gangue Lounge posted on the entrance walls.

BIOSCAN will take place from 7 - 9th of March and it will be a great opportunity for you to complete an activity at the university, in a time that will not conflict with your class schedule (Friday afternoon, Saturday, Sunday).

    February 03

    Let's Talk Science Volunteering

There are a few new things going on and they need volunteers to step in .

    1. Geology Workshop at the University (grade 4 students)
      Monday - February 4th (9.30-11.30) and (12-1.30 pm)
      Friday - February 8th (9.30-11.30) and (12-1.30 pm)

All the activities for this workshop are already designed and ready to go. They only need a few extra hands to help us.  No backgroung in geology is required.

It's a great opportunity for you to complete your 3 activities and you don't have to leave the university area.

    Videos on PAWS

    NOTE ON VIDEOS:
Videos posted on PAWS must first be downloaded to your computer for them to play.  The PAWS server does not host video content so they are not streamed.  I will try to keep them under 15Mb so they will download quick when using high speed.  Look for some bowling videos coming on Monday.

    PAWS Group

I have just recently obtained space on PAWS.  To find this group look under the groups section of PAWS and search for the Ore Gangue it is located under the category of Campus Clubs. and add it to your groups.  This space will be used to post the newsletter in PDF form, videos and whatever else is necessary.  All groups on PAWS are checked on by the U of S so we can't put anything too wild on it or they will remove it from the site.  So check it out in the near future for the first addition of the Rock Pile come early next week. A note to all alumni who visit this site you can also view files on PAWS if you have graduated from the U of S since 2001 and for those who graduated before 2001 you can contact the University Advancement
    Customer Service Center

    to obtain a NSID.

    APEGS REQUIREMENTS

I have posted a link under the Geology Links Section that will let you download a list of APEGS required classes in Geology from the U of S.  It is a pdf file so it should be accesible to everyone.  If not let me know and I'll e-mail you a copy.  I know everyone asks what the requirements are so I have made it easy for everyone to find out from the source at APEGS.
